Visakhapatnam: An unidentified person dumped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes into a storm water drain in Bhanunagar near HB Colony in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. He also threw some Rs 100 and Rs 500 notes in the drain, locals said According to locals, the man came on a motorcycle and dumped the notes into the drain and rode away afterwards.
Ms S. Lakshmi, a local, said she requested him to give her the money but he refused. Following this a large number of people gathered there, and traffic came to a standstill. Police reached the spot and collected some notes to ascertain whether they were genuine.
Some locals were of the opinion that the notes could be fake, as the man had dumped Rs 50 and Rs 100 notes as well. Mr A. Raju, a local, said many people had collected the notes; they were damaged as they were in the water for nearly an hour before they were retrieved, he said. Only a few of the notes were in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations, he said.
