Hyderabad: Pay up or lose water, says board
Hyderabad: The Metro Water and Sewerage Board has warned defaulters that water lines would be disconnected from November 15 if charges and arrears are not paid. The board will be deploying 100 Red Brigade disconnection teams to disconnect the supply of defaulters who have not paid bills for more than six months. The board will be accepting old notes on Sunday and Monday towards bills and arrears, in tune with the announcement made by the Centre.
The board has so far collected Rs 24.58 crore in two days. A total of 34,015 customers paid their bills, officials said. Elsewhere, the board disconnected the water lines of the top 55 defaulters. In a bid to improve revenue collections, board managing director Dana Kishore directed the general managers and staff to disconnect the lines of the top five defaulters’ connections in their division. The staff has been instructed to personally visit at least ten customers in their divisions.
“The Water Board has launched a three-day revenue collection drive which will end on November 14. The fee for the new 15-inch individual domestic connections charges can be paid in the cash counters,” Mr Kishore said. The board’s counters would remain open till 7 pm in the core city area and 8 pm in the Old City. He said if the board’s revenues improved, it could take up projects like GIS mapping, studying non-revenue, geotagging of manholes would cost more than Rs 15 crore.
