Waste-to-energy plants in all cities, says minister
Kochi: The government will soon initiate measures to set up centralised waste-to-energy plants in all cities, said Minister for Local Self Government A.C. Moideen. He was inaugurating a seminar on ‘e-waste management – awareness creation’ organised by the district administration and Ernakulam District Residents’ Associations Apex Council (EDRAAC) at Ernakulam Town Hall on Friday.
“The unity displayed while addressing the issues after the deluge should be shown in the process of rebuilding Kerala as well,” the minister said.
Clean Kerala Mission former managing director Kabeer B. Haroon took class on processing e waste, one of the big menaces in post-flood days.
He briefed on the ways to handle electronic waste and the impacts of heavy metals in e waste like cadmium and mercury.
Haritha Kerala Mission, Suchitwa Mission, Clean Kerala Company and GJ Nature Care Energy Private Limited were also part of the programme.
During the function, EDRAAC president P. Rangadasa Prabhu handed over the cheque of Rs 70 lakh towards rebuilding Kerala.
