Visakhapatnam: A Naval Sea King helicopter flew from INS Dega to Srikakulam on Friday for air dropping food packets and relief material in areas most affected by cyclone Titli.
The helicopter also carried the Diving Team, Gemini and an OBM. two Chetak helicopters were also deployed at Asika village at the confluence of Rushikulya and Bara rivers in Behrampur district of Odisha for relief operations.
A diving team from INS Chilka is already at the site undertaking rescue and relief operations. INS Ranvijay has been diverted to arrive off Srikakulam by Friday evening to provide support for helicopter operations in the area.
On Thursday, diving teams with inflatable Gemini boats and associated diving equipment from Visakhapatnam, which were pre-positioned at INS Chilka, were immediately deployed for rescue operations in Gopalpur district of Odisha.
A naval Dornier aircraft undertook an aerial survey of the affected area and identified the flooded areas. Photographs of these areas have been handed over to the district administration.
The Eastern Naval Command has been put on high alert since October 9 to provide assistance towards rescue and relief operations.
The severe cyclonic storm Titli crossed the east coast of India between North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha. Ships, aircraft and diving teams have been kept on standby for immediate deployment for rescue and relief operations.
