Thiruvananthapuram: LDF has edge in bypolls
Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF has won 12 and UDF six of the 20 local body seats for which by-polls were held on Thursday. The BJP and independents won one seat each.
The LDF wrested the Trikunnapuzha North in Kollam and Kolachaerry in Kannur from the UDF, while the UDF wrested Kambamkodu at Ummannoor in Kollam and Taynagar at Kayppamangalam in Thrissur from the LDF. The UDF also lost Navayikulam in Thiruvananthapuram and Vellimala at Vandanmedu in Idukki to the BJP and an independent candidate respectively.
The wards won by the LDF were Meenmutti at Nanniyod in Thiruvananthapuram, Bharanikavu at Sasthamkotta and Sooranadu-west in Thrikkunnapuzha North in Kollam, Injikkad at Vandiperiyar in Idukki, Trikkepadi at Pothanikkad in Ernakulam, Ilankavu at Kizhakancherry in Palakkad, Poyilpara at Aayacherry, Mangatidam at Kaitheri 12th mile and Kayatteel at Kannapuram in Kozhikode, Kolacherry at Edakkad and Kavumbhagam at Thalasserry municipality in Kannur and Mandamkolli at Sultan Bathery in Wayanad.
The wards won by the UDF were Kamabamkodu at Ummannoor in Kollam, Nedumkandam east at Nedumkandam in Idukki, Cheenikuzhi at Mazhavanoor in Ernakulam, Taynagar at Kayppamnagalam in Thrissur, Amapotta at Tiruvegapura in Palakkad and Thuvakkad at Thanoor in Malappuram.
The BJP won the 28th mile at Navayikulam in Thiruvananthapuram and independent candidate won Vellimala at Vandanmedu in Idukki.
