Supreme Court relief to didi, refuses to stay order
The bench issued a notice seeking state's reply in six weeks.
New Delhi: In a huge relief to the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal, the Supreme Court on Friday refused to stay a Calcutta high court order dismissing a writ petition challenging the state’s decision to give Rs 10,000 each to every Durga Puja committee in the state, involving disbursement of Rs 28 crores.
A bench of Justices Madan B. Lokur and Ashok Bhushan after hearing senior counsel Kapil Sibal for the West Bengal government and counsel for the petitioner said it would not stay the high court order dated October 10. The bench issued a notice seeking state’s reply in six weeks.
