Bengaluru: Keep city garbage-free during Dasara'
Bengaluru: With the beginning of Dasara festivities, which are likely to generate large amounts of garbage, Mayor Gangambike on Saturday issued a directive to all BBMP engineers to ensure an adequate cleaning mechanism to keep the city clean.
Holding a special solid waste management meeting with officials and ruling and opposition party leaders, she said that because of Dasara, garbage generation will be at least 30 per cent more. It should be cleared multiple times at markets and residential areas to ensure cleanliness, she said.
The BBMP will have access to Bellalli quarry to dump garbage only for the next six months. Measures should be taken to reduce dependence on quarries and waste segregation should be taken up at source and at ward level, she said.
“Further, ward level tenders will be floated for garbage management. The BBMP has been spending large amounts of money on waste management, but has failed to get the desired results. Poor management of waste will give us a bad name,” she said.
She directed officials to send green colour autorickshaws to collect residential waste and yellow colour autos to pick up commercial waste.
