Tamil Nadu: Four more bus terminuses for Deepavali festive rush
Chennai: In view of the Deepavali rush, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), State Express Transport Corporation and private operators are expected to operate extra buses from Chennai to various destinations across the state. To ease the congestion at the boarding points, the state government has decided to operate services from four terminuses apart from CMBT, Koyambedu for three days from October 15 to October 17, a release said.
Apart from the existing terminus at Koyambedu, buses would be operated from Anna Nagar (west), Poonamallee, Tambaram Sanatorium and Saidapet MTC depot. Police expect a total number of 11,645 buses to be operated from Chennai.
Operation of buses to Velankanni, Tiruchy, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Senkottai, Trivandram, Panrutti, Villupuram, T.V.Malai,
Kancheepuram, Salem, Coimbatore, Ernakulam, Bangalore would operate from Koyambedu bus stand while buses to northern and north western towns — Arcot, Arani, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupathur and Hosur will be operated from Poonamallee bus stand.
Operation of Tamil Nadu & APSRTU buses to Andra Pradesh will be from Anna Nagar west bus stand, police said adding that buses to Kumbakonam and beyond Tanjore via Dindivanam will ply from Tambaram Sanatorium.
Buses to Puducherry, Cuddalore and Chidambaram will start from Saidapet MTC depot. City traffic police have also formulated plans to ensure free flow of traffic due to the rush.
