Karnataka: Life sentence for Cyanide Mohan, to stay in jail till death
BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday sentenced notorious criminal Mohan Kumar alias Cyanide Mohan Kumar, to simple life imprisonment.
However, the court has made it clear in its order that the convict shall never be released at any cost, and that he shall serve the sentence until the end of his life. His criminal acts should not be pardoned in future too, the order stated.
The High Court passed the orders after commuting the death sentence passed against the convict by a lower court in the murder of one Anitha in Bantwal
in 2009.
The lower court had sentenced him to death for killing three women in three separate case, and the High Court on Thursday held him guilty in one of the three cases, and sentenced him to simple life imprisonment. The High Court is expected to take up the hearing of the other two cases in the coming weeks.
“By profession Mohan was a teacher, but later quit his job and took to crime. He is a threat to the society, especially women and girls. Hence, as per Supreme Court’s order in Srinivasan’s case, he is sentenced to life imprisonment,” court ordered.
The prosecution had strongly argued citing that the convict was involved in multiple cases wherein he has robbed innocent women after raping and killing them by using cyanide.
Masthigudi: Verdict reserved
The High Court on Thursday reserved its judgment on the petitions filed by Kannada film Masthigudi producer Sundar P Gowda, its director Nagashekar, two other assistant director of the film along with stunt choreographer Raviverma, seeking to quash the criminal proceedings against them in connection with the death of two actors.
All of them are accused in the tragic death of two actors during the shooting of the film Masthigudi, at TG Halli reservoir.
In a tragic turn of events, two Kannada actors — Uday and Anil died after a stunt went horribly wrong at Tippagondanahalli Lake in November 2016. The actors, along with the hero Duniya Vijay, were filming the stunts.
As per the scene, Vijay and the two actors jumped into the lake from a helicopter. While the lead actor swam ashore, the other two did not surface for a long time. Later after an extensive search for two days their bodies were recovered.
