Gautam Bambawale new envoy to China
The MEA said he is expected to take over shortly.
New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday announced that Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan and 1984-batch IFS officer Gautam H. Bambawale is the next Indian Ambassador to China. The key appointment comes at a time when India and China recently resolved the military stand-off at Doklam in Bhutanese territory. The
Doklam face-off was the most serious challenge to hit Sino-Indian ties in the past few years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping subsequently resolved to look ahead and build ties further during their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit at Xiamen. The MEA said he is expected to take over shortly.
