Kerala High Court okays Mahatma Gandhi University syndicate nomination
Kochi: Kerala High Court on Wednesday upheld the state government's nomination of new members to Mahatma Gandhi University syndicate. Earlier, the government had withdrawn the nomination of members of the syndicate and appointed some others in their respective places.
"I don't find any mistake on the part of the government in withdrawing the nomination of the petitioners and syndicate members and reappointing others," Justice A.M. Shaffique observed while considering a batch of petition against the school's decision. "In such cases, the government submits that all the appointees are well-qualified to act as syndicate members and I don't think a different take is necessary in this matter," the court held.
The main contention urged by the petitioners was that the term of appointment to the office as members of the syndicate as four years and therefore, the subsequent notification was arbitrary and illegal. The petitioners were appointed in January 2016 and the notification came after LDF government cam e to power.
