Bengaluru: No teachers yet in government schools

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) is still busy completing the transfer process of primary and high school teachers.

Bengaluru: Here’s another reason why parents prefer private schools to government ones. While private schools in the state are busy completing their syllabus and preparing for revision, government-run schools still haven’t got their teachers! Reason: The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) is still busy completing the transfer process of primary and high school teachers.

According to sources in the state education department, every year the DPI used to complete the annual teachers’ transfer process by the end of May. This enabled the teachers to start classes in their new schools from June 1, the first day of the new academic year and complete the syllabus as per the time-table. Even the students were able to understand their teachers and learn well.

But this year the DPI is finding it tough to complete the transfer process, even though half of the academic year is over. According to sources in the DPI, the counseling process will continue till Friday, October 14.

“There is a huge demand for transfers, especially in Bengaluru city and rural schools. Around 2 lakh teachers were transferred in this season. The sad part of this process is that these transferred teachers, are just joining the designated schools so late in the day, and they still haven’t started taking classes,” explained an officer.

According to officials, the transfers were supposed to be completed in the month of September. "But due to the series of holidays caused by the Cauvery agitation we could not complete the transfer process on time,” said a senior officer.

Many teachers who were transferred recently confirm that inevitably, the students are the worst victims of the untimely transfer. "Now we have to uproot ourselves from the earlier schools and report to the new schools. We need time to understand the new students. All this will affect the academic and extra-curricular activities,” said a teacher.
