Become UK high commissioner for a day!

The opportunity is open for women applicants from India aged 1823 years

Hyderabad: British High Commission will celebrate International Day of Girl Child by making one of the participants in a contest as “High Commissioner for a Day.”

The opportunity is open for women applicants from India aged 18–23 years. The chosen one will become the high commissioner of the UK diplomatic mission for a day. The deadline for applying for the contest is September 22, 2021.

Applicants should record and upload their one-minute video on “How young people can best support in tackling the global challenge of climate change?” Contestants must share this video on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook or Instagram by tagging @UKinIndia and also using hashtag #DayoftheGirl.

Indian High Commissioner Alex Ellis said, "Through the ‘High Commissioner for a Day’ competition, I want to shine a light on brilliant young women and young peers in school to show that anything is possible.”

British High Commission has been organising this competition from 2017. Last year 18-year-old Chaitanya Venkateswaran won the competition. Chaitanya’s day as high commissioner included learning about gender representation in media, interacting with senior police officers from Madhya Pradesh and Telangana, and launching the British Council STEM Tracer Study documenting stories of Indian women scholars.
