This Ganesha, 100% green
Bengaluru: While theme-based and environment-friendly Ganeshas are a rage this festive season, Ms Vijayalakshmi Regret Iyer has created a 5.5 feet Ganesha idol with 100 percent eco-friendly materials, like bamboo, areca nut cups, leaves and grass!
She told Deccan Chronicle that customised materials were procured from Srirangapatna. "The artists there were kind enough to weave the bamboo basket as per my requirement. The trunk has been prepared using a material from palm tree. This has been the centre of attraction at my residence in Thyagarajanagar," she said. "It took two days to create the Ganesha and I was completely satisfied with the outcome. Palm leaves have been used for ears. The advantage of this Ganesha is it is not immersed in water. Instead, it will be dismantled and re-assembled next year with a different look and with new materials," she said.
"Environmentalists have been struggling hard to impose the ban on Plaster of Paris idols. Eco-friendly Ganeshas will encourage youngsters to say good bye to PoP Ganeshas," she said. Along with this eco-friendly Ganesha, 64 different varieties of Ganesha idols are also on display at her residence in Thyagarajnagar.
