Hyderabad: Cops rescue boy within 24 hours of kidnapping
Hyderabad: Chaderghat Police rescued a one-year-old boy, who was allegedly kidnapped from Malakpet Gunj late on Monday, and arrested two men.
According to the police, the boy was sleeping on the footpath with his mother Mounika and his grandmother when he was kidnapped.
The mother lodged a complaint the same night and an investigation was started, police said, adding that the suspect is known to the family.
The arrested men were identified as Biradar Suresh, 30, an auto driver from Ayodhya Nagar colony of Old Malakpet and native of Bidar district in Karnataka state, and Mahipathi Ramji Raj Kumar, 37, a cook by profession also living in Ayodhya Nagar colony, police said.
Suresh was an acquaintance of Mounika; Ramji Raj Kumar was his friend, said ACP Sultan Bazar, Dr M Chetana.
“Upon noticing that the boy sleeping between Mounika and her mother was missing around 11 pm on Tuesday night, they asked around and learnt that Suresh had taken the boy away in his autorickshaw.
A police case was booked with the Chaderghat police and an investigation was taken up,” said the official.
The investigation revealed that Raj Kumar got married about four years back and had no children.
Kumar requested Suresh to arrange a child for him from a poor family for Rs 20,000.
“Attracted by the money offered, Suresh kidnapped the boy and handed him over to Kumar. Eye witnesses informed Mounika and the police about this.
“The police then registered a case and arrested the two men and handed the boy back to his mother,” Dr Chetana said.
