Hyderabad: Six lane flyover in the pipeline

The municipal corporation has invited bids from across the nation for the 2.8 km length flyover project that will cost Rs 220.57 crore.

Hyderabad: A six lane two way flyover crossing 7 tombs’ junctions (Shaikpet), Film Nagar Road junction, OU Colony and Whisper Valley is being finalised by the GHMC.

The municipal corporation has invited bids from across the nation for the 2.8 km length flyover project that will cost Rs 220.57 crore. Apart from easing traffic movement in the IT corridor, the flyover will also serve commuters travelling from Mehdipatnam.

The 6 carriage way flyover will start from Shaikpet with one arm stretching to Filmnagar and another arm taking a left turn connecting Khajaguda Junction, OU Colony and Whisper Valley.

“The flyover is being built keeping in mind the number of people entering the financial district for work. It will ensure seamless flow of traffic in Mehdipatnam, Gachibowli, Miyapur and the financial district,” said an engineer from the GHMC.

The GHMC has specified multiple features for the six lane flyover; standard viaduct spans and obligatory spans, reinforced soil walls, crash barriers, friction slabs, approach slabs, dirt walls, pier protection works, anti carbonation painting on the exposed concrete surfaces and sand blasting the exposed steel surfaces.

Also as a first, the flyover will have an appropriate drainage system connecting the nearest existing drains.

This will ensure that there is no water pooling happening at trail ends of the flyovers, a nighmarish eventuality that happens with a number of flyovers during the monsoon. This flyover will also have signage, pavement markings, and illuminative road studs.

Once the bidder is selected, the GHMC will hand over a time frame of 24 months time (including the monsoons) to complete the project.
