Chennai: The BJP, which has been campaigning for Jawahar Navodaya Vidhyalayas in Tamil Nadu for long, has urged the state government to set the ball rolling for setting up the schools with the support of the Union HRD Ministry.
Calling upon the state government not to go on an appeal against the verdict of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, the saffron party said JNV would ensure a level playing field to talented rural students by providing them a residential atmosphere.
“Our party’s stand is Navodaya schools should be established in the coming education year and the state government should not appeal against the court verdict,” BJP general secretary Vanathi Srinivasan said.
The state government should approach the Union HRD Ministry and get all approvals. “Navodaya will be a game changer for rural, poor students and Neet aspirants. Those harping on social justice should not oppose these schools which admit 75 per cent students from rural areas,” she said.
Pointing out that Navodaya Vidhyalaya system is unique as it selects talented rural children as target group and provides them with quality education, BJP senior M. Chakravarthy said these schools would be a boon for those who could not affor-d education in cities.
“There is no reason why these schools should be opposed when the Centre had made it clear that Hindi would not be imposed,” he said.
Establishing Navodaya Vidhyalayas in Tamil Na-du is long pending dem-and of BJP and on an average in two executive meetings in a year, the saffron party passes resolutions asking the state government to set up the schools.
