American transgender shares journey with students

The activist also shared how tough her recovery was after losing parental rights of her youngest son and fighting legal battles.

Hyderabad: An American transgender activist was in the city speaking to university students in an attempt to destigmatise the third gender. Ms Jessica Lynn, a transwoman from California, shared her experience with around 300 students and faculty at the IIIT university. She is in the country on a tour visiting 22 universities across the country.

“Don’t say gender doesn’t matter to you. One should be more open to transgenders and their struggles, and learn to be more accepting of all genders,” she said.

Her life story touched a chord with many as her transition and sex change had many legal and ethical issues. The activist also shared how tough her recovery was after losing parental rights of her youngest son and fighting legal battles. “Being Trans comes with a lot of need to be patient, don’t give up,” said Lynn who was with other trans activists like Monalisa, Prife Abhijit Mithra and Vyjayanti Vasanta Mogli.
