30 junctions to be traffic free soon

The corporation has appointed a consultant to propose improvements which can be implemented at various locations.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) plans to make navigation at traffic junctions hassle free by facilitating free left turns for vehicles, improving pedestrian facilities and enhancing road safety infrastructure. The corporation has appointed a consultant to propose improvements which can be implemented at various locations.

The improvements which are being considered include the development of pedestrian refuge islands, footpaths, pedestrian guard rails, and pelican crossings. Enhancements which will benefit motorists include an increase of the width of carriageways, the facilitation of free left turns through the use of channelisers, and the improvement of road markings and sign boards.

The Urban Junction Improvement Plan (UJIP) is being taken up by the traffic and transportation wing of the GHMC. The appointed consultant has been entrusted with a list of 30 junctions which will be included in the first phase of works.
