Hyderabad: The state continues to be under the heavy rainfall alert till September 15 with the low pressure area that had formed over west central Bay of Bengal persisting.
Devarakonda of Nalgonda received 5 cm followed by Peddemul, Saroornagar of Ranga Reddy 3 cm. Though the state has been receiving showers over the last few days, it is still deficit facing a 6-per cent shortfall. The city did not witness showers up to 5.30 pm.
The weather bureau’s rainfall warning up to September 15 said: Heavy rain very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnnagar, Khammam, Warangal, Mahbubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Medak, Hyderabad and Nalgonda districts.”
K Chandrasekhar Rao tells GHMC staff to be ready
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao told GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy to ensure that emergency teams were in place to tackle urban flooding issues after being briefed that the state was under heavy rainfall warning for the next few days.
Mr Rao inquired about nala desilting. “Instruct all the line departments to be alert to face any emergency situation,” Mr Rao told the GHMC chief over a phone call. Following this, the commissioner ordered all zonal officers to complete nala desiltation. Directions were given to emergency teams to be vigilant. Dr Janardhan Reddy said the emergency control room will be kept open for 24X7 to attend emergencies.
