Ganesha idols in Hyderabad set to take a bumpy drive
Hyderabad: It has been a month since the Water Board chief asked for a new track at Necklace Road to the Vinayakasagar alongside Hussainsagar for immersion of Ganesh idols.
The contractor dumped gravel from the third crossing of Sindhi Colony, passing by the Ranigunj railway under-bridge and up to the Sanjeevaiah Park. Idols are already being immersed at Hussainsagar in front of NTR Gardens. Those intending to immerse the idols at the tank have to pass this pebbled stretch of Minister Road.
On the other side, one side of the Necklace Road that was dug up to lay the pipeline to divert Kukatpally nala, has not been levelled so far from PV Ghat. A little ahead of the park, stones have been dumped on the road up to the railway under-bridge leading towards Minister Road. There is a huge chunk of road cut open diagonal to KIMS Hospital for pipeline installation.
“It is impossible for anyone to travel at even five km per hour with these stones thrown on the road,’’ fumed Ms Lalitha Devi of Sindhi Colony. Those from the northern area of the city, intending to use the tank for immersion, will have to use this stretch.
“Patch work was done by dumping these stones during the recent rains but without any cement mixing. Due to regular commuting these stones have now got scattered and cover the entire road. Dust flies due to it," she said.
A Sewerage Board official said, “The board has already deposited Rs 8 crore with the GHMC to lay a new road. The job has been handed over to GHMC." When contacted, an officer of the GHMC engineering wing said, “this stretch falls in the Ganesh festival preparatory plan. The work is underway and will be completed before September 15.”
GHMC forms action teams
Ganesh pandal organisers will be given diaries comprising phone numbers of 162 GHMC action teams who can be contacted in case of need. The teams will be deployed every 2 km on the immersion routes.
The GHMC control room (100) will be operational 24x7. More than 27 cranes have been deployed at Tank Bund. The GHMC has put up an additional 26 lakh lights for the immersion process.
On Thursday, 35,000 police personnel will be deployed for the main immersion procession. City police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy requested the public to be wary of social media and not to believe in rumours. The police warned people against forwarding rumours on the social media network.
