Andhra Pradesh government to regulate use of drone cameras

The state government intends to streamline such free-for-all use, a decision that CM Naidu arrived.

Hyderabad: The AP government is going to set up a Drone Corporation to regulate the use of drone cameras that have become almost a norm at marriages and public meetings for security and other purposes.

People are acquiring drone cameras from private companies for their own use — and sometimes misuse, as well, such as prying into other people’s lives.

The state government intends to streamline such free-for-all use, a decision that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu arrived at during a recent Cabinet meeting.

He said the state government would supply drone cameras to private parties who wanted to use them at functions and that it ought to control their supply throu-gh private agencies.

The CM said that initially, the corporation would start with a corpus of Rs 5 crore and be under the control of the General Administration (GAD), or Home department. A senior official said that it was best if it was under the Home department since people had to take permission from the police when holding public meetings which was when they could also apply for the drone cameras they required. They would have to approach two departments if it was put under GAD, he said.
