Andhra Pradesh: Chief Secretary seeks report on housing

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Secretary Dr K.S. Jawahar Reddy disclosed that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy wishes to give house sites to all government employees in urban and semi-urban areas. The CS thus wanted officials to submit a comprehensive report on availability of lands that could be allotted to government employees.

Holding a review meeting with senior officials at his camp office in Vijayawada on Saturday, Dr Jawahar Reddy asked special chief secretary (Revenue) and CCLA G. Sai Prasad to examine how much land is required for house sites to government employees. He suggested that Said Prasad could discuss the issue with representatives of employee unions and associations.

The CS said the Chief Minister is expected to review the issue of providing house sites to government employees in about 10 days.

Dr Jawahar Reddy advised officials to also focus on a public housing policy in urban areas to accommodate people who build small houses and huts on government properties like roads, footpaths, canals and drains. Such people can be made to live in houses built by the government under the public housing system. This would make towns look more beautiful, he stated.

Special CS Sai Prasad informed Dr. Jawahar Reddy that he will talk to employee unions about house sites, collect details and submit a report. Others present at the review meeting included CM’s secretary R. Mutyala Raju, House Construction Company MD Dr. Lakshmisha and CRDA additional commissioner Aleem Basha.
