MIM’s kavi sammelan recalls role of Muslims in freedom struggle

Hyderabad: An evening dedicated to poems and poetry themed around the struggle for Indian independence and recalling the sacrifices of freedom fighters was the highlight of an emotional programme organised by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen here on Friday.

The show 'Hindustan ki Azadi Mein Musalmanoon ka Kirdar' brought together poets from all over.

Speaking on the occasion, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said ‘We are not here to give patriotic certificates to anyone but to celebrate independence. Our forefathers have sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from the clutches of the British.”

Patriotic fervour was all over Salar-e-Millat ground at Brindavan colony, Tolichowki, where the poignant event was organised.

Retracing history, Owaisi said “the first freedom fighter to be sent to Andaman jail was a Muslim from Hyderabad. The first journalist who was assassinated by the British was Mohammed Baquer and Umar Subhani donated his fortune for the freedom movement.”
