Wayanad: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, MP, has ruled out politicisation of the rain havoc in Wayanad and said that all political parties were united in facing it.
Rahul, who was addressing a meeting at the relief camp at Meenangadi in Wayanad district on Monday evening, said "it is not a tragedy of one political party or another, but of the state. Though we have political differences, we all work together for the improvement of people," he said. He also welcomed the CPM men in the crowd saying, "I think my friends from the CPM also are here. I also welcome them."Rahul added that before he came here, he thought that the inmates would be demoralised. "But they shared things with me in a dignified manner," he said and pointed out, "all have maintained their self- respect."
The inmates said that the food was good. In some camps, there were complaints about hygiene and lack of health care facilities. Rahul said he had discussed the matter with the collector who promised to do the needful.
He told the camp inmates at Meppadi that the Congress party and the UDF will ensure that justice is done to the inmates. Rahul earlier visited the landslide-hit Puthumala and went close to the marshy land formed out of the landslide.
Though the security officials had set up a special spot for Rahul to observe the rescue operations, he ignored them moved closer to the spot.
He also inquired with the rescue workers about the progress of the operations and listened to the survivors' tales. He promised to put pressure on the central and state governments to support them more....
