Kurnool: With more than two lakh cusecs of flood water relea-sed into the Tungabhadra, the district administration has announced a high alert along the villages on the river bank. At the religious centre of Mantralayam, the Tungabhadra is flowing menacingly.

Collector Ganeshan Veera Pandiyan has directed the revenue department to caution residents to be alert as there may be chances of the river flooding the villages. Though Kurnool didn’t receive adequate rainfall, the Sunkesula barrage is brimming with flood water.

Due to the heavy rain upstream, the Tungabha-dra dam, which has a capacity of 100.84 tmc ft, currently holds 89.11 tmc ft.  With over 2 lakh cusecs entering the dam, officials are releasing 2,08,363 cusecs downstream. The water filled the 1.20-tmc ft capacity Sunkesula barrage in no time. Officials released the water which will reach the Srisailam dam.
