Over 300 volunteers have been collecting materials and distributing 40 loads a day from the collection centre, civil station, Kozhikode.

"The affected people need to restart their lives from the scratch," said V. Vigneswari, sub-collector, Kozhikode. "Efforts have been made to identify badly-affected people and provide them better support," she said. "We need more sponsors to make it possible. The contributions are less this time though 50,000 people live in camps," she added.

"Volunteers have come here from far-flung places like Nadapuram. We work in different sections like reception, data entry, collection, packing, loading, unloading and distribution," said an official."People from all walks of life, including resident associations, NSS, NCC, Kudumbashree, anganawadis and chamber of commerce, work here," he added.

A. Midhun, another volunteer, said, "we work in day-and-night shifts and in the morning we face shortages.’’
