Kozhikode: Id celebrated in relief camps

The people share a strong bonding without the feelings of caste, religion and community, which is evident in the camps in Kozhikode.

Kozhikode: While the whole world was celebrating Id al-Adha on Monday, Kerala was facing another flood havoc. But even in the midst of the calamity, the inmates of relief camps celebrated Id, trying to find happiness in their own little ways.

The people share a strong bonding without the feelings of caste, religion and community, which is evident in the camps in Kozhikode.

"There are 317 camps in the district with 58,317 inmates," said P.P. Kabeer, a volunteer of the camp at Azhchavattam government school, Mankavu. "We celebrated Id by preparing food for all those staying in the camp," he said.

Biriyani, porotta and chicken curry were made and new clothes were distributed as well, he added.

The inmates expressed their happiness and gratitude to everyone. "Most of them would return to their homes in a day and they have been provided with cleaning materials too," Kabeer added.
