Kochi: Progressive techies chip in with power banks for flood-hit
Kochi: To help the people affected by flood and rain in the northern districts of the state, a group of techies and students in Kochi has come up with an innovative endeavour.
The Progressive Techies, a welfare group of IT employees, along with students of Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology, built around 300 power banks and dispatched it to the affected areas of Wayanad and Malappuram districts.
According to Anish Panthalani of Progressive Techies, the main objective of this initiative is to help rescue workers, including officials, to get proper connectivity.
“The areas in which rescue and relief operations are undergoing have no power due to widespread damage. The power banks will provide temporary relief for them. By considering the works they have to do, this could be a huge help in bringing enough things to the spot,” Mr Panthalani said.
“Besides, people trapped in isolated places can use this to contact for emergencies and other help.”
They have dispatched three truckloads of relief materials so far to Malappuram and Wayanad. A car full of relief materials is also en route Munnar in Idukki.
The techies have also started a call centre to provide enough support for the flood-affected areas. Several collection centres have also opened at many places in the city such as supermarkets and apartment buildings.
Prathidhwani, another welfare organisation of IT employees in the Infopark, have also dispatched three vehicle-full of relief materials to various areas of Malappuram, Wayanad and Munnar in the past two days. “Besides, the relief materials will be going to Wayanad late on Monday to distribute directly to homes,” said T. Vineesh, president, Prathidhwani Kochi unit.
