Draft NEP needs to be revisited: Vairamuthu

COIMBATORE: Noted Tamil poet and popular film lyricist Vairamuthu on Monday said the draft New Education Policy (NEP), 2019, needs to be revisited.

Parents, students and academicians should offer their suggestions to enable this process of a wider consultation, Vairamuthu said speaking at a function here where his new work ‘Tamizhaatruppadai’ was released.

Stating that it took him four years to write this book that dwells on the great personalities of Tamil literature and culture, Vairamuthu came down heavily on schools imposing fines on “students who conversed in Tamil in their campuses.”

Interestingly, Vairamuthu had a pithy response to the Central government’s actions in Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcating the state into two union territories. “Why was the opinion of the public not sought,” he posed.
