Rains recharge reservoirs across Telangana
Hyderabad: Several reservoirs in the state have received good inflows after the rains across the state during the past two days. While medium and minor irrigation projects, rivulets and tanks benefited from the rains, the major reservoirs did not witness much change in their water level. The rains have rekindled the hopes of kharif farmers, which were worried about scanty rainfall for the past two months.
However, the inflows into projects in Krishna basin were lower compared to Godavari basin. On Sunday, in Godavari basin, inflow of 50,958 cusecs and outflow of 61,277 cusecs were recorded in Kadem project. Rains have filled Yellampally dam to the brim, forcing the officials to lift 27 gates to release water downstream. The reservoir received an inflow of 1,87,037 cusesc and outflow of 2,89,184 cusecs was recorded.
Out of 36 medium irrigation projects in the state, as many as 19 received good inflows. Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao said that 16 projects in Godavari basin and three projects in Krishna basin received good inflows so far. “We expect another three projects to fill in the next three days. The state has received inflow of 1,85,887 cusecs through medium irrigation projects in Godavari basin and 55,818 cusecs of outflow. But in Krishna basin, the inflows to the reservoirs are very low. These projects received just 10,054 cusecs of inflow and outflow of 519 cusecs,” Mr Rao said.
