Lawyer-couple block Madras High Court judge's car, gets 15-day suspension

After overtaking and stopping the judge's car, both the advocates scolded the driver of the judge.

The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has suspended an advocate-couple from practicing for fifteen days on the charge of blocking a car of a Madras High Court judge after entering to quarrel with his driver in public view.

The incident took place on July 30 at about 9.40 AM, when a car driven by advocate Sahul Hameed overtook the car in which a judge of High Court was proceeding to the court. Hameed’s wife advocate Shika Sarmadan was also traveling along with him in the car. Hameed was continuously blowing horn. After overtaking and stopping the judge's car, both the advocates scolded the driver of the judge. Later, the couple went residence of judge and again scolded the driver in presence of the judge on August 3.

On a complaint from Personal Security Officer before the Bar Council about the incident on August 4, it formed a a three member Special Committee of the Bar Council consisting of Advocate General Vijay Narayan, senior advocate R Singaravelan and advocate Chandrasekaran and issued notice on August 6.

In the order the council stated that imposing order of interim suspension stating the necessity has arisen in public interest to place both of you under interim suspension prohibiting you to practice in any court or Tribunal or Quasi Judicial Tribunal in the country until further orders to protect and uphold the confidence and faith of the public on the Honorable Judges and Judiciary.
