Hyderabad: Incessant rains shut down tourist places

The water level rose so high that the hanging bridge too was submerged.

Hyderabad: Continuous rainfall since Friday has left several water bodies in spate in erstwhile Warangal district. Entry to the famous Bogatha waterfall in Jayashankar Bhupalapalli was shut down on Sunday due to heavy inflow of water to the waterfall. The district police took the decision to ensure no accidents took place during the weekend.

The waterfall is flowing like never before with water gushing from the top of the 50-ft rocks. With the weather forecast indicating more rain in the coming days, officials declared that it would remain closed on Monday and Tuesday as well.

The Laknavaram lake in Govindaraopet mandal of the district also received heavy inflow of water. The water level rose so high that the hanging bridge too was submerged. This was a very rare view for tourists. However, the officials have stopped allowing tourists on to the bridge.

Streams and rivulets were also overflowing in rural parts of Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad and Warangal districts but no loss of life has been reported. Mahbubabad district recorded 679.2 mm rainfall as against the average rainfall of 56.58 mm. Jangaon district too received good rainfall with a total of 191.8 mm against the average of 17.4 mm.

The Bhupalpally district received rainfall of 2,839.2 mm as against the average of 167.01 mm with Mangapet mandal recording the highest rainfall of 193.6 mm followed by Mogullapalli 140 mm, Govindaraopet 165.8 mm and Eturunagaram recording 11.6 mm. In Warangal rural district, the total rainfall recorded was 248.7 mm as against the normal rainfall of 304.6 mm.

The state government has appointed special officers for the districts to monitor the flood situation. Special officers including senior IAS officer N. Siva Shankar and Rahul Bojja held meetings with Jangaon, Warangal Urban and Rural district collectors and took stock of the situation.

The MROs were asked to camp in their assigned stations and monitor the flood situation round the clock. They were asked to keep all relief measures at hand in case there was a breach of any rivulet.
