Hyderabad: Aadhaar operators voice woes

The Aadhaar enrolment equipment is not owned by banks but by the operators who were hired through various contracting agencies.

Hyderabad: Aadhaar operators working in banks allege lack of training when software updates are rolled out, no proper guidance and delay in payment of salaries. About 2,000 operators working in various bank across Telangana, some of whom BTech graduates, are earning less than Rs 10,000 per month.

Due to the lack of credibility of Common Service centres (CSC), UIDAI did not extend its partnership for Aadhaar enrolment centres. Some of the operators started working for banks to conduct various Aadhaar operations.

The Aadhaar enrolment equipment is not owned by banks but by the operators who were hired through various contracting agencies.

Mr Mendi Suresh Kumar of Telangana Aadhaar operators’ welfare association on Sunday said, “We purchased our equipment for Rs 60,000 upto Rs 1.20 lakh using loans. We are not getting paid timely or properly to repay these loans. We sought support from UIDAI officials who extended their support in the jurisdiction of UIDAI. The issue is persistent in all states and we are hoping proper intervention as this is the livelihood for many families.”

While UIDAI wants minimum of 12-15 enrolments per day, on an average 20-30 enrolments are happening in the state at Rs 30 per enrolment (Rs 25 + Rs 5 GST).

This money goes to the bank, even though the kit is purchased by the operators.
