Civic amenities planned for 2BHK projects

Each 560 sq ft unit with two bedrooms, two toilets, kitchen and hall will be handed over free of cost.

Hyderabad: The state government has asked all city departments to provide civic amenities like drinking water, sewerage lines, electricity, police stations, schools and hospitals to major double bedroom projects which have been constructed in the outskirts of the city.

The departments have prepared an estimate of Rs 600 crore and submitted it to the government. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Electricity Department and Rural Water Supply (RWS) Department alone have submitted estimates worth Rs 473 crore.

According to highly placed sources, Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi held a series of meetings with all the city departments and asked them to provide all civic amenities to the beneficiaries of double bedroom housing projects. He asked them to prepare the budget estimates and send them to the state government for approval.

During a meeting held on August 4, three departments submitted proposals for providing civic infrastructure to 2BHK houses constructed at Rampally, Ahmedguda, Kollur and other places. Proposals worth Rs 473 crore have been submitted and a final call will be taken in the next meeting after other city departments present their proposals.

A senior GHMC official said that most of the 2BHK houses had been constructed in isolated places and it would be the government’s responsibility to provide civic infrastructure including schools, colleges, hospitals and police stations/outposts. He said that the Chief Secretary had already held two meetings with the departments concerned and a final decision would be taken in the next meeting. He added that the government had agreed to bear the infrastructure cost despite it being '75,000 per each dwelling unit. However, the official pointed out that the government was yet to release the infrastructure cost of each dwelling unit.

Meanwhile, 6,240 houses at Rampally are being constructed on 41 acres at a cost of Rs 541.83 crore and 15,660 houses at Kollur are coming up on 124 acres at a cost of Rs 1,355 crore. The civic body has acquired 650 acres of land in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal and Sangareddy districts and is yet to invite tenders to construct the houses.
