Banasura Sagar dam opened sans alert

Following protests, the collector on Sunday called KSEB assistant executive engineer P. Manoharan to his chamber and sought an explanation.

Kalpetta: Officials of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) who opened the Banasura Sagar dam here in the wee hours of Wednesday resulting in flash floods and a trail of devastation downstream had not consulted the District Disaster Management Authority before releasing the water, it is revealed.

District collector and District Disaster Management Authority chairman A.R. Ajayakumar told DC on Sunday that KSEB officials opened the shutters without his permission.

Following protests, the collector on Sunday called KSEB assistant executive engineer P. Manoharan to his chamber and sought an explanation. He also directed the official not to open the shutters without his written permission.
