Telangana: Woman ferries ganja to pay DSC coaching fee
Hyderabad: A 25-year-old woman’s dream to take coaching for DSC entrance forced her into ganja smuggling. Muthem Babitha who had completed post graduation did this due to poverty, but was caught while delivering her first consignment. Babitha’s cousin Muthem Sunil Kumar, 20, and one Bidyasagar Singh, 25, too were arrested by Secunderabad Railway Police on Saturday. The police also seized 100 kg dry ganja worth Rs15 lakh from them.
Babitha, hailing from Vizag, had completed PG and had also did BEd. Three years ago she married one Ganesh. But in less than a month he dumped her for another woman.
Though her aim was to clear DSC entrance and become a government teacher her poverty did not allow her to go for coaching. Meanwhile, some of her relatives lured her into the business. She decided to smuggle ganja to realise her dream to become a government teacher.
She and her cousin Sunil and one Bidyasagar started from Vizag to deliver their first consignment in Sholapur. They boarded a general compartment on LTT Express. On Saturday morning when the train reached Secunderabad police nabbed them.
Police said the suspects packed dry ganja in packets and wrapped them with tape and concealed them in luggage trolleys. Before packing them in luggage trolleys they covered the ganja packs with naphthalene balls, camphor and incense to mask the smell of ganja. The suspects were paid around Rs 10,000 depending on the destination of the consignments. The three were arrested and remanded.
