PIL seeks online portal for RTI applications
Chennai: A medical student has approached the Madras High Court to direct the State Chief Secretary to direct all the departments of Tamil Nadu to disclose the proactive disclosure mandated by Right To Information Act in their respective websites, besides to direct the authorities to launch an RTI online portal.
A division bench comprising Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and N. Seshasayee, before whom the PIL filed by Mohamed Khader Meeran, a third-year MBBS student, came up for hearing ordered notice to the state and Union governments.
He said, Union government replied to an RTI query they have not assisted the Maharashtra state regarding the RTI online portal. He had sought directions to the various departments to create an RTI online portal for filing RTI applications by the Chief Secretary of TN. He received a reply saying the National Informatics Centre is helping in creating an Online portal. However, when he made an online RTI request, the NIC had replied that no such request has been received. Hence, he filed the present PIL, he added.
