Odisha: Girl buys bike with Rs 5 currency notes

She gave 12,000 pieces of Rs 5 currency notes at the showroom counter.

BHUBANESWAR: An undergraduate girl in Koraput district of Odisha on Saturday set an example of smart saving for others by purchasing a two-wheeler with Rs 5 currency notes. Priyanka Panda, daughter of Bhaskar Panda of Jalaput village under Nandapur block in the tribal district, spent money that she had saved over a period of 14 years from her expenses.

On suggestion by her father, the student has been saving money since she was 4 year old. At an appropriate time, she wanted to spend it to buy a new two-wheeler with complete cash payment. She gave 12,000 pieces of Rs 5 currency notes at the showroom counter. Although, it proved to be a a tough job for the showroom employees to count the total amount in low-value currency notes. However, the showroom employees appreciated Priyanka for her unique act of saving currency notes for the past 14 years.
