Hyderabad: Damaged phone gets buyer relief from court
Hyderabad: A district consumer forum in the city came to the rescue of a person who received a damaged phone in 2015.
Mr Srinivas Reddy, a resident of Erragada, had ordered a phone worth Rs 5,500 from an online merchant. But he was given a damaged set. Repeated complaints to the online merchant, CJ Shop Network, and at fora like, the alternate consumer dispute redressal cell, did not yield desired results, forcing Reddy to approach the court.
The 48-year-old complainant told the court that on receiving the damaged set, he informed the merchant with a photograph of the set.
However, the seller was not in a mood to listen. The seller also failed to respond to the legal notice by the consumer supplies department. Reddy then demanded a Rs 50,000 compensation and refund of the money with 12 per cent interest rate.
The forum found the merchant guilty and asked him to shell out Rs 3,000 as compensation and the refund of the money with 9 per cent interest rate.
