Telangana High Court stays municipal polls in Shamshabad

While considering the petition, the court directed the election officers and district collectors to undertake the exercise once again.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday issued interim stay orders directing the Election Commission agai-nst notifying elections in Shamshabad municipality until the due process was followed for division and delimitation of wards in the municipality.

Justice P. Naveen Rao was dealing with a petition by Siddulu Mudiraj and two others challenging the publication of draft notification issued by the municipal administration on July 5. They alleged that the division of the municipality into wards under the impugned draft publication has been in direct contravention of the Telangana Municipalities Act.

While considering the petition, the court directed the election officers and district collectors to undertake the exercise once again.
