Hyderabad: Multiple vehicles with registration plates displaying the same number have been spotted in the city, and the same was brought to the notice of RTA Uppal recently.
An official said the RTA will conduct inspections and seize all the vehicles having the same number plate. The officials would then hold an inquiry to identify the vehicle owner with the original number. Owners of vehicles with the fake numbers will face criminal charges, he said.
Shaik Salauddin from Four Wheelers Association said, “Many owners have two or more vehicles with registration plates displaying the same number. Such drivers usually use one vehicle within the city and the other one on the outskirts. They are in a way deceiving the government.”
He said there is a high likelihood that such vehicles are being used for criminal operations. "Installing plates with the same number allows drivers to escape taxes and other charges that they owe the government," he said.
Mr C. Ramesh, joint transport commissioner, said, "We will book criminal cases against all fake vehicle owners once they are identified. We have booked similar cases in the past."
