Hyderabad: In an age of rising intolerance and caste and faith hostilities, a Christian girl was provided monetary aid for education by a Muslim organisation on the request of a Hindu priest.
The Helping Hand Foundation facilitated the aid via its USA-based partner organisation Support for Educational & Economic Development (SEED).
A second-year BCom (Computers) student at St. Francis College, Ms G. Blessy could not afford to pay her second-year tuition fee. She is the daughter of Mr G. Lucas, a social worker and resident of Shahpur, Jeedimetla. He was in no position to bear his daughter’s college expenditure, which amounts to Rs 95,000 annually.
Mr Lucas said he heard about the humanitarian and philanthropic activities undertaken by the Chilkur head priest C.S. Rangarajan last month, so he approached the temple for help. He informed the priest he was Christian by faith. The priest invited him inside. That is when he explained his daughter’s situation to the priest, he said.
Mr Mujtaba Hasan Askari of the Helping Hand Foundation said Mr Rangarajan, who he happens to be close friends with, called him to convey Mr Lucas’s plight. Mr Askari forwarded the request to Mr Mazhar Hussaini of the US-based NGO SEED. Mr Hussaini was in the city at the time. He agreed to grant the fee amount to Ms Blessy and issued a cheque for the same to Mr Lucas on Thursday....
