Hyderabad: Man held for impersonating cop, extortion
Hyderabad: A pseudo policeman wanted in seven cases of extortion was arrested by LB Nagar police on Thursday. The police recovered 100 grams of gold and a bike from the accused.
The accused, identified as Ramavath Naresh, 27, an auto driver hailing from Ramanthapur and native of Devathapally hamlet in Nalgonda district, is a repeat offender. Over a span of six years (from 2011 to 2017), LB Nagar police have arrested him seven times — six times for robbery and once for outraging a woman’s modesty. After he was released from prison, Naresh began riding around in search of potential victims to extort. Impersonating a police officer, he took to extorting money and ornaments from elderly persons waiting at bus stops after dark. He further even threatened his victims against publicising the incident.
LB Nagar DCP Sunpreet Sing said, “Naresh was wanted in five cases of extortion in LB Nagar and one in Kacheguda. The LB Nagar police apprehended him and recovered 10 tolas of gold and the bike he used while committing the offence. He was remanded to judicial custody.”
