Dharmajipet: For the first time, the Adilabad district administration through the ITDA, Utnoor office has distributed free seeds including jowar, maize, ‘Korralu’ and ‘Samalu’ which are popularly known as ‘Chiru Danyalu’ to the Kolams to cultivate for their consumption.
This may likely to be extended to other villages in the future. Collector Divya Devarajan made arrangement for 30 Kolam families from Dharmajipet to receive the seeds in this Kharif season.
The move is aimed to improve the nutritional levels among the Kolams as many of them especially women and children suffer from various health problems. It has been found that many Adivasis die due to anaemia. Kolams fall in the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group.
In addition, district officials are planning to distribute pattas to nearly 3,000 applicants to the extent of 11,000 acre forest land under ROFR in Adilabad district.
However, the district administration is waiting for the approval of the tribal welfare commissioner to give pattas to the forest lands that are being cultivated by the tribals for a long time under the Forest Rights Act 2006.
The Adilabad district administration is making all efforts to resolve the podu land-related issues by conducting joint surveys to avoid untoward incidents like that of Kotta-Sarala in Kagaznagar mandal in Kumarambheem Asifabad district.
