Bengaluru: Curbs on live bands from today
Bengaluru: The city police curbs on playing live or recorded music in pubs, bars, restaurants, discotheques and hotels will come into effect on Friday.
The East Division police had recently issued notices to around 30 such establishments in and around Indiranagar , restraining them from playing music from Friday.
The hotels that require to play music for their patrons will have to approach the police for permission, which of late is not being granted by the police. They have instead been cracking down on the leisure bars who had failed in renewing their licences to play music.
The police are empowered to initiate criminal proceedings against management of erring establishments that play live or recorded music, said a police official.
According to police, there are around 50 pubs, bars and restaurants, hotels and other places where DJs perform, live bands and other entertainment events like karaoke nights are held.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court has passed an order that pubs and bars and restaurants running live band, discotheques and cabaret dance should take permission from the city police.
