THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala suspects political reasons for the failure to arrest all behind Abhimanyu murder. "A section of police officers is helping the accused," he told reporters here on Thursday. "The secret understanding between the CPM and the SDPI is the reason for the failure to arrest the main culprits."
Earlier speaking at a protest meeting organised by Kesari Memorial Journalist Trust against booking journalist Venu Balakrishnan for making some remarks in a television debate, he said the government was taking a hostile attitude towards the media. "Both Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are trying to gag the press," he said.
"The Prime Minister has not once held a press conference after coming to power. Both Prime Minister and President Ram Nath Kovind keep out journalists from delegations on foreign visits." The same was the attitude of the state government towards the media, he said, keeping out reporters of many functions of the state government.
