Hyderabad: Urban local bodies are completely ignoring the mandatory requirement to provide replies under the Right to Information Act. RTI applications filed seeking information on building approvals and land encroachments are being ignored by officers of the urban local bodies.
The situation is so dire that the government has had to warn municipal commissioners of urban local bodies of serious action if they deny. or give wrong data to those seeking information under the RTI. Director of municipal administration T.K. Sreedivi issued a circular giving instructions to commissioners of ULBs in this regard. The circular issued by Ms Sreedevi says: “It has been noticed by the government that the applicants who are seeking information under RTI Act from the ULBs concerned are not getting the information under prescribed time as stated under RTI Acct. Further, it has been noted that, the correct information is also not delivered to the applicants who are seeking information under RTI Act.” The circular instructed commissioners of all ULBs to furnish correct information to the applicants within stipulated time under RTI Act, failing which further action will be initiated against them as deemed fit.
