Paddy purchase sets a new record

In the South, AP procured 55.32 lakh MTs, Kerala 4.53 lakh MTs and TN 2.11 lakh MTs.

Hyderabad: Telangana state clocked the highest-ever procurment of 53.66 lakh metric tonnes, which is twice over previous highest of 24.82 lakh metric tonnes recorded in 2013-14. Farmers were paid Rs 8,105 crore online. TS stood fourth after Punjab, Chattisgarh and AP in paddy procurement this year.

Civil supplies commissioner C.V. Anand said the Civil Supplies Corporation has exceeded the target in paddy procurement in kharif and rabi seasons this year by purchasing 53.66 lakh metric tonnes from over 10.93 lakh farmers by setting up 5,231 procurement centres and ensured minimum support price of Rs 1,510 per quintal for Grade A and Rs 1,470 for common variety for all farmers.

Mr Anand said, “We had estimated paddy procurement of about 37 lakh metric tonnes in rabi but purchased 37.14 lakh MTs from over 6.93 lakh farmers and paid Rs 5,627 crore online. Around 9.25 crore gunny bags were kept ready for procurement.”

In the South, AP procured 55.32 lakh MTs, Kerala 4.53 lakh MTs and TN 2.11 lakh MTs.

“This is a record as we procured highest ever paddy state this year.The procurement of 24.82 lakh MTs in 2013-14 was the highest so far. This year, it is 216 per cent more,” he added.
