Major fire at Imlibun power sub-station in Afzalgunj
Hyderabad: A major fire broke out on Tuesday night at the Imlibun power sub-station in Afzalgunj police limits, causing power shut downs in the surrounding areas and an estimated Rs 2-3 crore property losses.
An overheated transformer is believed to be the cause of the fire, which broke out at around 10 pm, Assistant Divisional Fire Officer Prabhakar Reddy said.
“It took 10 fire engines up to 3 am in the morning to put the fire out,” Afzalgunj police inspector Gnanender Reddy said.
“More than two lakh litres of water was used to put out the fire. The property damage is estimated at Rs 2-3 crore,” the fire officer said.
Eleven substations in the surrounding areas experienced power shutdown as a result, with Petlaburju and Falaknuma going dark for more than two hours, according to chief general manager TSSPDCL, Hyderabad Metro, U. Vidya Sagar.
One fireman, T. Nagendra Raj, was hurt while extinguishing the fire as the driver of a fire tender stepped up the water pressure. The water jet hit the fireman’s eyes, but his helmet saved him from suffering head injuries due to its force, police said.
"The water pressure was very high and it hit my eyes. Doctors have checked me and advised me medication and rest”, the fireman, who was admitted and discharged from Kamineni Hospital, said.
